Mission, Goals & StrategyThe Diversity Institute was a professional development program of the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL), funded by the National Science Foundation and based in the Wisconsin Center for Education Research at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The mission of the Diversity Institute was to create and disseminate an educational resource base for faculty and future faculty on the topic of diversity in gender, race, nationality, learning style and physical ability in science, technology, math and engineering education.. From September 2004 through May 2005, Diversity Scholars reviewed and provided feedback on literature. The Scholars also met and discussed strategies for encouraging inclusion in STEM teaching and learning. In May 2005, the work of the Diversity Institute and its Scholars and that of other exemplary national programs were showcased to a national audience at the CIRTL Forum 2005. All tools and resources created by the Diversity Institute are publicly available through the Diversity Institute web site. |
