College Classroom Course Will Highlight Diverse Undergraduate EnvironmentsKatherine Friedrich This summer, a Delta Program course will open the horizons of future faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to the diversity of colleges and universities where they may work. The course, “The College Classroom: Teaching in the Liberal Arts, UW System and Technical College Classroom,” will offer both conceptual and practical tools for instruction, and will connect these tools to the many educational contexts in which they can be used. This two-credit course is designed to prepare participants to teach effectively by using the results of assessments to improve learning, as well as by using learner-centered teaching methods. Students will visit college campuses, which may include Madison Area Technical College, UW-Milwaukee, Edgewood College and Carroll College. These institutions have different missions and cultures. Course participants will explore what it means in these different settings to practice teaching methods that work well for students. The instructors will include faculty from UW-Milwaukee and Madison Area Technical College, as well as Delta Program staff members Brian Manske and Don Gillian-Daniel. The Delta Program is a project of the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning and is now funded by the UW-Madison. For more information on this course, or to register, visit the Delta Program Web site. May 16, 2008 |
